My name is Shriti and I’m from a city called Daltonganj in India.
That adventurous thing called marriage got me over to Australia and I’ve been living here for two years now.
I’m always excited about sharing my story about my marriage. My husband and I actually met on a marriage portal, we liked each other’s profile, we skyped each other and then we just fell in love! I just liked his smile, he’s got very good dimples and I was just like ooh! And I really, really liked the way he was, so charming and cute!
Who have you got back home?
I’ve got my whole family back home, my husband’s family, my friends, my sister, everyone. It’s like my husband and I have been shipped out over here! Everyone else is back home, all my relatives.
I have mixed feelings about this. I really believe that during the initial part of your marriage, you should just go somewhere and stay together, that you need some space for just the two of you, and that really helps with building that relationship. But of course I really miss my family especially on certain occasions like during festivals, which are celebrated in a massive way, so I really miss that part of India.
How often do you send money back home?
I send money back home very often. I would say, say once every three months. We have two different families, my family and my husband’s family as well, so we send money back for different reasons.
My parents wedding anniversary is coming up for example, and this is the first time that I won’t be there with them to celebrate their special day so I’m planning to send some money especially to make sure that my dad buys something for my mum! It’s their 29 year anniversary, and if you can do these little things, like sending gifts, something that would make them happy, it gives you a really intense feeling and you really feel like you’re still with them, celebrating those moments. I just hope they like my surprise and all.
What was your last transfer used for?
Recently we actually had to send money to my father-in-law who had a medical emergency and needed to undergo heart surgery. The money transfer needed to be very quick because the operation was coming up in two or three days. We sent money through InstaReM and it reached very conveniently and very safely.
