The Swazi Lilangeni (SZL) is the official currency of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), issued by the Central Bank of Eswatini. It was introduced in 1974, replacing the South African Rand, though the rand is still accepted in Eswatini at a 1:1 exchange rate due to Eswatini’s membership in the Common Monetary Area (CMA) along with South Africa, Namibia, and Lesotho. The lilangeni is subdivided into 100 cents, with banknotes ranging from E10 to E200 and coins from 1 cent to E5. Due to its peg to the South African Rand (ZAR), its exchange rate remains stable, but economic ties to South Africa make it susceptible to regional economic fluctuations.
