The Chinese Yuan Renminbi (CNY) is the official currency of China, issued by the People's Bank of China (PBOC). The Renminbi (RMB) means "people’s currency," while Yuan (¥) is the basic unit of the renminbi. The currency is available in both paper and coin form, with denominations ranging from 1 jiao (0.1 yuan) to 100 yuan. The yuan has been increasingly used in global trade, particularly with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It operates under a managed floating exchange rate system, meaning the PBOC intervenes to stabilize fluctuations. The offshore yuan (CNH) trades freely in international markets, whereas the onshore yuan (CNY) remains under Chinese government regulation.
