EEK - Estonian Kroon currency

Estonia flag Estonia

The Estonian Kroon (EEK) was the official currency of Estonia from 1992 to 2010 before being replaced by the Euro (EUR) on January 1, 2011. It was issued by the Bank of Estonia and originally introduced to replace the Soviet Ruble following Estonia's independence. The kroon was pegged to the German Mark (DEM) and later to the Euro (EUR) to ensure stability. The currency was subdivided into 100 senti, and banknotes ranged from EEK 1 to EEK 500. While it is no longer in circulation, Estonians were able to exchange kroons for euros at a fixed rate of 1 EUR = 15.6466 EEK indefinitely at the Bank of Estonia.
