São Tomé and Príncipe
The Sao Tome and Principe Dobra (STD) was the currency of Sao Tome and Principe until it was replaced by the New Dobra (STN) in 2018. The redenomination aimed to simplify transactions and reduce inflation’s impact by replacing 1,000 old dobras with 1 new dobra. The currency, issued by the Central Bank of Sao Tome and Principe, played a crucial role in the nation’s economy, which is largely dependent on cocoa exports and international aid. Due to its limited economic scale, São Tomé and Príncipe also maintains close financial cooperation with Portugal and international institutions. The adoption of the new dobra has helped to stabilize the currency, making trade and banking operations more efficient.
